People & Things I Can Tolerate. I mean -- My Inspirations.

It's one of the typical questions that will arise in most Question & Answer scenarios.
Who inspires you?
Or, if we're being particularly pedantic, what inspires you?
I've never really known how to answer...this is my attempt!

-
I'm sorry. I haven't even said hello. Hello.
Sorry for the lack of posting; I won't bother to explain. This blog is at my leisure, but I still feel a little guilty not putting out new content. I don't know. I'm committed, I'd like to think, so I don't want to fail that, even if it's only failing myself.
[We got a bit deep there. Let's back-peddle].

I've never really known how to answer. I know that some people will find it easy, those sorts of people with fixed role models, people like aspiring Olympians who pin pictures of Jessica Ennis on their wall or Usain Bolt. I partly wish I had somebody like that to idolise; but there are other parts of me, too, that am glad I don't. I'll explain. It's not that I don't admire people - I do. JK Rowling, a now bestselling author who lived a troublesome life and found solace in another world (the wizarding world, of course). Every volunteer for charity, whether they're baking cake sales on the weekends or travelling to the plains of Africa to deliver boxes of food and toiletries firsthand. There's probably a certain quality in the majority of people on this Earth that I admire (sorry, discounting the serial killers). But nevertheless, there is not a single being, or a certain influence, I channel my own thoughts from.
And I think that's a good thing. I think, in my case, with wanting to be an author, it sparks one of the best features of a book of all; originality. That and a healthy against view on plagiarism.

But, since I have answered this question, and I can't say those answers were false (they weren't!) I'm going to list some of those ladies and gents who bear those awesome qualities I really want to aspire myself to be like. They don't have to be celebrities or even real people - I'd say some book characters are truly inspirational. Maybe television ones too. Amy Pond is pretty kick-ass.
(Doctor Who reference? Wha?)

In no particular order:

1. JK Rowling

Aforementioned but still, she's mentionable again.

2. My Parents*

*No picture needed. Let's keep the cringe to a minimum.

3. You Guys! Well, maybe not all of you.

Point being, everyone who engages with me on social media, everyone whom which I follow; yeah, I think you're pretty awesome. Keep being you.

4. Audrey Hepburn

Need I say more?

5. Nature

Thanks trees. Thanks flowers and sea and banana tree leaves bigger than my face.

6. Portrait Photographers

Annie Leibovitz, Dan Winters... to name a couple. There are many, many more.

7. Books! Books, books, BOOKS.

Pretty self-explanatory. Reading, I will forever argue, is one of the greatest luxuries given to mankind. It's not like animals have the privilege. Indulge, please.

8. Novelists in General

Because writing a book is pretty damn cool.

Just a disclaimer - I admire a lot more people than this, but I'm focusing more on inspirations that spark my own interest. For example, scientists like Michael Faraday and Marie Curie and Albert Einstein don't not have my respect. I love science, but it isn't one of my main passions, and even though they do inspire me in certain ways (their drive, their great discovery in life), it isn't in quite the same way as the people above.

Anyway, a shortie but hopefully a goodie. I just felt compelled to write, really. Hopefully more and more blogs will be coming out these next few months. I'll call this one a 'filler' so I can really think of something big. (Big? It's all perceptive. We shall see!)

Thanks for reading.
Olivia

  1. Great list, Olivia! Books, Audrey Hepburn and your mum would be on my list too - not necessarily in that order.
